Jo Partridge

Jo Partridge is Operations Director at MiAlgae, a Scottish SME built on a circular economy model. The company aims to eliminate the existing reliance on wild-caught fish as the primary source of omega-3 by producing a sustainable microalgal alternative from food and drink sector coproducts. Using the outputs from a single distillery, MiAlgae’s technology has the potential to save 80k tonnes of CO2, recycle 14.4m litres of water and protect 51,000 tonnes of fish annually.

Jo has over 30-years’ experience across the biotech and life sciences sectors. Having completed her PhD in Bioscience and Biotechnology at the University of Strathclyde and held several positions in academia there, she was then involved in the successful spin-out XstalBio, a biotech focused on providing novel solutions to enable drug and vaccine delivery.  Jo subsequently took on the position of Operations Director at IBioIC where she led the Centre’s industry-focused project programme as well as Scale-Up Centre activities.  It was here that she had the opportunity to indulge her passion for translation of biotech innovation and collaborate with some of the UK’s most talented academics and entrepreneurs.
