Jo has over 30 years of experience in biotech, working across academia, start-ups, and industry.  After completing her PhD in Biotechnology, she was involved in early proof-of-concept work that led to XstalBio, a University of Strathclyde spin-out.  There, she worked her way from senior scientist to director level, taking novel drug and vaccine delivery innovations through to commercial development.

Jo later joined IBioIC as Operations Director, leading the industry-focused project programme and bioprocess scale-up facilities.  In that role, she combined her passion for innovation with practical delivery, working closely with academics and entrepreneurs.

She is now Operations Director at MiAlgae, a Scottish SME with circular economy at its core.  MiAlgae produces a sustainable alternative to fish oil - using microalgae grown on food and drink industry by-products - to reduce reliance on wild-caught fish as a source of omega-3.
