Jonathan Hughes

Jonathan established Pennosan Ltd., in 2019 to develop and expand water treatment markets for chitosans. Primarily through product innovation. He’s spent nearly 40 years researching and producing chitosans for industrial biotechnology and water treatment applications. Including as MD of industrial biotechnology R&D and chitosan manufacturer Pennotec (Pennog Ltd) since 2012 and most recently as UK agent for HIMMEL® technologies Group and co-owner of insect chitosan start-up Chitexo Ltd.

After completing a PhD in industrial fermentation applications of chitosans, Jonathan spent 10 years in Industrial Biotechnology and Natural Product R&D and a further 10 years in marketing roles within the international chemical industry, where the end-user market shift towards sustainability was clear.

Through the Innovate UK-supported CatchFeed initiative, Pennosan is aiming to create new markets for chitosans as process aids in sustainable feed production..
